About The Wall That Heals
The Wall That Heals is a powerful, traveling exhibit that brings the legacy and impact of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to communities across the nation.
The exhibit features a three-quarter scale replica of the Memorial in Washington, D.C. The replica measures 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. As visitors walk toward the center, or apex, The Wall gradually rises above them, creating the same powerful emotional experience as the original Memorial.
Constructed in a chevron shape, visitors physically walk the timeline of the Vietnam War. Names are listed by date of casualty, beginning at the center/apex on the East Wall, extending outward, and continuing from the far end of the West Wall back toward the center—symbolically joining the beginning and the end of the conflict.
Names, Design, and Accessibility
The Wall That Heals is constructed of Avonite, a durable synthetic granite, and consists of 140 numbered panels supported by an aluminum frame.
More than 58,000 names are machine engraved onto the panels, ensuring accuracy and consistency with the original Memorial.
Modern LED lighting illuminates The Wall so names can be read clearly both during the day and throughout the night. Visitors are welcome to do name rubbings of individual service members as a meaningful and personal way to honor those listed.

In addition to The Wall itself, the experience is designed to educate visitors about the Vietnam War, its history, and its lasting impact. The exhibit provides a space for quiet reflection, learning, and connection—whether visitors come seeking remembrance, understanding, or healing.
